As Valentine’s Day draws even closer, I’ve got some suggestions for all you lovely readers. As mentioned in Saturday’s post, Valentine’s Day is not a big deal here in Austria, and I’m not a huge fan of the holiday. However, I am a huge fan of chocolate. Luckily chocolate and Valentine’s Day go quite well together, so I’ve got plenty to share from The Wordy Baker archives. Don’t forget, you can always browse through my old recipes by clicking the “Recipes” tab at the top of the page!
Let’s start off with a classic. For an elegant after-dinner treat, this Chocolate Mousse is ideal. Rich and dark but still airy and sweet, it meets all the requirements of a good mousse.
Or for a truly decadent treat, you can’t go wrong with a Flourless Chocolate Cake. This one has a slight kick from paprika and cinnamon and needs no other topping than a sprinkle of powdered sugar. Perfect for a homemade Valentine’s Day dinner with your sweetheart or a girls’ night in!
Baking for someone who is dairy-free, egg-free, or vegan? Look no further! Vegan Chocolate Cupcakes to the rescue. Everyone deserves chocolate cake! You can easily make buttercream frosting with Earth Balance diary-free buttery spread in whatever flavor you choose.
Want something that doesn’t involve turning on the oven or the stove? This retro Icebox Cake features chocolate wafer cookies and fresh whipped cream. To make it festive, top with red and pink sprinkles instead of chopped hazelnuts.
Looking for a beverage instead? Try this European-Style Hot Chocolate, which is rich, thick, and super creamy. It’s made with real dark chocolate, took, not cocoa powder!
If you want a less formal dessert, these Chocolate Bar Bites are the way to go. They are super easy and would be the perfect small after dinner treat or a great surprise inside a lunchbox!
Similarly, in case you missed Saturday’s post…Marzipan Conversation Hearts! The classic Valentine’s Day treat gets a make-over into something that is tasty and totally customizable. Another perfect lunchbox treat or sweet snack.
Oh, and you should all check out this post I wrote about Love Shacks on the Adventures in Preservation blog to get into the Valentine’s Day spirit!
